Shaykh Muhammad Amān Al-Jāmi said:

"It is a must that we differentiate between the Jamā'ah and the various other groups.

The Jamā'ah is that which the Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم had been upon. That is the Jama'ah of the Muslims, regardless if they have a leader or not. If they have a leader, then it is binding upon all the Muslims to adhere to this Jamā'ah and to obey the leader. If there is found a Jamā'ah in a place where there is no leader, then it is still upon the muslim to live with this Jamā'ah.

If there is no Jamā'ah present which sticks to the religion of Allah and has understanding of His legislation, then the muslim must abandon all of the (deviated) sects and live alone. For indeed, he is the Ummah, and he is the Jamā'ah by himself."
