What is the Ruling of Writing Qur'anic Verses upon the Walls of the Masaajid & Houses?

Question posed to Sheikh Zayd Al-Madhkhali رحمه الله تعالى:

Q: Noble Sheikh, what is the ruling of writing Qur'anic verses upon the walls of the masaajid, and Ayah Al-Kursi in the houses?

A: All praise is due to Allaah, and may Allaah raise the rank of the Messenger of Allaah and grant him peace, his family, his companions, and those that believe in him and follow his guidance.

As for what follows:

There is no need to write Qur'anic verses upon the walls of the masaajid, nor within the mahaareeb (the niches within the walls of the masaajid that indicate the direction of prayer), nor other than it. That was not from the way of the Salaf (the righteous first three generations of Islaam; the Sahabah, Taabi'een and Atba' At-Taabi'een).

Rather, the Qur'aan is written in the masaahif and memorised in the chests; it is recited for reward, for deriving Islamic rulings and to act in accordance to it.

As for using it to adorn the houses, or the masaajid, then this is not legislated. And it is obligatory upon the scholars that they clarify (this) to those that do that, and other than it from the affairs of the Religion that are not good to do and that are obligatory to abandon. And Allaah knows best and with Allaah is all success.
