The Importance of Tawheed and The First Commandment and Prohibition In The Qur'an
Sheikh AbdulMuhsin (may Allaah preserve him) said:
Allaah the Mighty and Majestic says:
"O mankind! Worship your Lord (alone), who created you and those before you so that you may become pious. The One who made for you the earth as a stretched out expanse (for provision, settlement and repose) and the sky a ceiling, and who sent down water from the sky and brought forth thereby fruits as provision for you. So do not set up rivals for Allaah (in worship) while you know (that none deserves to be worshipped but Him alone)." [2:21-22]
The Sheikh commented:
"These two noble verses contain within them the first commandment and prohibition found in the Qur'aan.
They contain within them the loftiest commandment, which is the worship of Allaah alone, and that is in His saying:
"Worship your Lord."
They also contain the severest of prohibitions which is Shirk (directing worship to other than Allaah - polytheism), and that is in His saying:
"So do not set up rivals for Allaah."
