Shaykh Abdul Azīz bin Bāz, may Allāh have mercy upon him, was asked:
Question:
May Allah preserve you. This sister, a doctor, is inquiring and says: Regarding the saying of the Messenger (ﷺ), "The best of you is the one who is best to his family," what is meant by this, O Shaykh?
Answer:
Based on the apparent meaning of the hadith: "The best of you is the one who is best to his family, and I am the best of you to my family." "His family" refers to his wife, his mother, his father, his children—all of them are his family. It means: he treats them with kindness, spends on them, and prioritizes them over strangers and those distant. Yes.
