The rectification of the heart lies in:
1. Completly returning back to Allaah
2. Having a strong reliance upon Him
3. Having total sincerity to Him
4. Desiring good for all of the creation
As for the heart's corruption and deficiency, then it is a result of the opposites of these things and this is the meaning of his statement ﷺ:
"Indeed in the body there is a morsel of flesh, if it is rectified then the whole body will be rectified, and if it is corrupted then the whole body will corrupted, and it is the heart".
The reality and actualisation of this is that Allaah makes Al-Eeman beloved to the servant, adorns his heart with it, causes him to dislike disbelief and sinfulness and makes him from the rightly guided.
This is true rectification, inwardly and outwardly. Whilst its' opposite is that which goes against that.
